Landcare is a national movement with a local focus. It is a partnership between the rural and urban communities, industry and government to promote the sustainable use of land, water and living natural resources for the benefit of the Nation.
Landcare in Parkes and Districts is about the community, businesses, schools, local industry, people within townships and farm families working together to effectively use and manage natural resources within the overall goal of promoting and enhancing a sustainable and productive environment.
There are currently 24 Landcare Groups in the Forbes, Parkes and Peak Hill areas, which comprise the Parkes and Districts Landcare Groups (being centred around Parkes). The boundaries for our area are centred around Peak Hill to the north, Forbes to the south, the Bumberry ranges to the east and Yarrabandai to the west. The Parkes and Districts area crosses two catchments, namely the Lachlan and Central West. The Parkes & Districts Landcare area covers approximately 720,000 hectares.
