Thanks to the Parkes Show Committee
This year the feature of the Parkes Show was Landcare and the display was very well presented thanks to the hard work of the Show Committee members. On behalf of Parkes and Districts Landcare I wish to thank the Show Committee for their thoughtfulness in having the feature based on landcare.

Forum on next week
We are at the 10 ,9 8 7 stage of the commencement of the forum that will start in Parkes on Monday and go through to Wednesday. Every thing has been organised and the committee has been working hard on the Project for the past eighteen months. For those listeners who may not be aware of the forum it is the NSW Landcare and Catchment Management Forum that is held every two years and Parkes submission to conduct the forum was looked on favourably by Landcare Australia.

We also conducted the state wide forum in 2001.

We have had three hundred and twenty registrations from all over the state, and it will be a great conference for not only learning how to "Think Differently" but also to meet up with other like-minded Landcarers.

MC for the forum is Sarina Locke well known from ABC radio. Keynote speaker on Tuesday will be Major General Michael Jefferies, panel session focusing on Thinking Differently we reap what we sow body mind and soil The panel members will be Dr Maarten Strapper advocate for biological farming systems, Dr Carole Hungerford Nutrition based approach to wellness and author of the book Good health in the 21st Century and Dr John Hoskin mental well being in rural Australia.

These panel members will be leading the discussion on thinking differently at environmental issues, health and wellbeing of the body and mind.

On Wednesday the Guest speaker will be Rob Gell National President of Greening Australia and the keynote speaker will be Richard Neville practicing futurist since 1963.. Professor Allan Lindsay Curtis will speak on ‘Why social research is critical for NRM’, There will be a panel session on ‘ Carbon farming initiative or using our initiative’ a session on ‘Benefits of traditional Burning’ presented by Russel Hill and another panel session on ‘Sustainable Landcare... Landcare Sustainability – capacity to achieve funding.

There will also be the state Landcare Muster where ideas and future directions are discussed.

Field trips will also be conducted to bus participants to local Landcare Group activities and see what is happening on the ground.

We are also full up for the Kids Landcare Carnival that will be occurring at Kelly Reserve on the 6th September.

This will be a true extravaganza of environmental fun for the kids, with activities ranging from the always popular Zoomobile, to the Picasso Cow, Recycled material musical instrument making - and performance, worm farms, wasteless lunch and much, much more.

In conjunction with the Forum Forbes are having Kalari Lachlan River Arts Festival happening on the 3rd and 4th September , which will be an amazing event, which will feature among other things a truly spectacular Welcome to Country, poetry, busking, street party, lantern parade and so much more.

For more information go to www.riverartsfestival.org.au

One event that I haven’t mentioned as yet though is happening on the 3rd of September in Forbes and is the Forbes Alternative Energy Expo.

Joining Landcare

Listeners are invited to donate their time to landcare and they can join parkes and Districts for $10 per family. It’s a great organisation to be involved in with many activities and projects being conducted.

Listeners can phone the Landcare office on 6862 4914 or call in at the former Tourist Information Centre Thomas Street Parkes.
