Landcare Forum over and delegates have returned home
The event commenced with the Kalari Lachlan River Arts festival on the weekend and the Forum that commenced on Monday. Both were great successes. We had a meeting Thursday morning to gauge the success of the forum and analyse the feed back evaluation forms. From this meeting we will put in a report on issues that we encountered and compile recommendations for the next forum that will be in 2013.
The NSW landcare Forum was eighteen months in the planning and was kicked off on Monday with Regional Landcare Facilitator Meetings and NSW Landcare Meeting followed by the Landcare Muster in the afternoon where over one hundred and ten delegates were in attendance. In the evening we had the official welcome to the delegates and the opportunity to network. In all the re were three hundred and twenty delegates from all over the state in attendance.
On the Tuesday there was breakfast in Cooke Park and this was catered for by the Parkes Rotary. This was followed by Delegates going on one of four Field trips to see our landcare activities. Other activities that were conducted in the morning were workshops, trade displays and a markets area. In the afternoon we had high profile speakers lined up. The Awards dinner and presentations were held on the Tuesday evening and the meal was catered for by Eat Your Greens and the entertainment was of cause Elvis and it was a great night had by all. There were thirteen award categories and the winners were:
Individual landcare Award- Chris Scott.
Natural Resource management Award- Central West CMA
Sustainable farming practices Award- Robert Jarman.
Coastcare Award- South West Rocks Dune Care.

On Wednesday we continued with the Forum speakers and panel members and in all we had over twenty four specialty speakers and panel members. MC for the Forum was Sarina Locke and to name some of the specialty speakers- Major General Michael Jefferies, Professor Allan Curtis, Rob Gell, Richard Neville. These speakers and panel members certainly provoked some stimulating thoughts and discussion.
On the Tuesday we also had a Kids Carnival at Kelly Reserve and there were over two hundred school kids involved in that day. We had the Zoo Mobile there, the kids were making musical instruments from recycled material and played these in the afternoon, Netwaste showed the kids how to make a worm farm, there was a Picasso Cow for all to paint and leave there mark. There was a competition for a wasteless lunch and this competition was won by Bogan Gate and Trundle Central School. Those students when they brought there lunches along there was no waste with it at all.
We are glad the forum was such a success and I would like to thank some of the local companies that supported the Forum- Western Roadliners Bus Company, Rotary for providing the breakfast, a big thank you to the volunteers who assisted over the three days. Also to the local sponsors Lachlan CMA, Central West CMA and NorthParkes Mines a big thank you to Transgrid for the sponsoring of the Kids Carnival for your support and, who made the forum possible
The Forum in 2013 will be in the Hunter Region
Bruie Plains Field day
This was a Sodic Soils day that Bruie Plains Landcare organized. They had a pit to assess the soil on the property ‘Argyle Downs’ and participants also had the opportunity o have soil samples from their property analysed. The day was held on the week prior to the forum and what a success that was. there were twenty five odd in attendance and all had an informative day and a great lunch. The day was a freebee and was sponsored Bruie Plains Landcare, CANFA, DPI and the Central West CMA.
Bruie Plains drumMUSTER
This was held at Trundle tip two days before the Sodic Soils day and it again was a great success with over twenty five hundred drums being collected. Many thanks to the landholders who supported the drumMUSTER and Bruie Plains landcare. The drums collected are put through a chipper and the plastic is then recycled to make other products.
Peak Hill project coming up
The project Drain is for rain will commence soon in Peak Hill and with this project we will work with the local schools and the Landcare group at Peak hill to put stencils on the paving indicating not to throw rubbish on the streets as this eventually will end up in the waterways. We will also provide bird nesting boxes for the schools and surrounding areas. These will be monitored by the locals on the bird use and species.
Thanks to Sponsors.
Many thanks to our sponsors Radio 2PK and Valley FM, Parkes Shire Council, Forbes Shire Council, NorthParkes Mines, Lachlan CMA, Central West CMA, Forbes Advocate, Parkes Champion Post.
