Nina Hooper Looking at Landcare - 26 August 2011

Hello Landcarers

Can you believe that there is only a week to the State Landcare and Catchment Management Forum?

If you haven’t got your rego form in yet you need to call the Forum Co-ordinator Sarah Gillogly on 02 6862 6000 and book your seat. We would really love to have lots of locals at what will be a fabulous event for our area and the cause of local Landcare.

A great facet of events such as these is that they really do inspire you and get you reinvigorated for Landcare, so if you and your group are flagging a bit, come along and get excited! Call Sarah today and get your registration in!

I wanted this week to say G'day to all of the Landcarers out around Trundle. It’s a great community and there is some fantastic stuff happening, that more people should be involved in! Bruie Plain Landcare had their committee meeting and AGM recently Thursday at Trundle Services and Committee member Bill ventured up to Trundle to attend.

The Group meets every two months at the Services Club and commences the evening with a meal and to meet socially and have a laugh or two while they catch up with what’s happening on the land. The meeting is conducted after the meal and decisions are made on the future activities of the Group.

At the AGM, the following were elected to positions President Jim Blake, Vice President Gary Crowley, Secretary Andrew Rawsthorne, Treasurer Rick Gibson, Public Officer Jim Blake. It’s really great to see this rural group flourishing.

And on that note coming up in this very same area is a Sodic Soils Field day. This is being conducted on Thursday, 1 September at the property ‘Argyle Downs’ Woodford Road Bruie Plains. The day will commence at 10.00 am with morning tea and will be followed by an overview of Central West CMA soil mapping project, a soil pit demonstration, an opportunity to test your own soil and a BBQ lunch.

After lunch there will be demos on cropping and grazing sodic soils successfully, alternative fertilizer trial results, a rundown on CWCMA incentives and the Carbon Farming initiative.

The day will conclude at 3.30 pm. This is a free field day and open to farmers in the Central west and Lachlan areas and is sponsored by Bruie Plains Landcare, CANFA, DPI and the Central West CMA. To attend contact Danielle Littlewood Central West CMA 6840 7805 or email danielle.littlewod@cma.nsw.gov.au by Monday, 29 August.

Trundle landcarers also co-ordinate drumMUSTER at Trundle. The next Muster will be conducted on Tuesday 30 August commencing at 9.00 am. At the last muster they received three thousand drums and it is hoped that this muster will achieve the same results. It is important that landholders register a book in time to save delay and allow the volunteer collectors to organize the morning.

If there are no bookings then it may not be on so it’s important not to waste your time or the volunteers - ring 6869 9248 to book your drums in time so the event is hassle free.Remember all drums put in for disposal must be washed and cleaned and metal drums need to be pierced.
