Count down to Forum
The countdown has begun to the Landcare and Catchment Management Forum, so we hope that you all have your regos in for this premier event. We have had registrations from all over the state, and it will be a great conference for not only learning how to “Think Differently” but also to meet up with other like-minded Landcarers. As we all know, the real good bits to be gained by a conference are often in the breaks!
We are also full up for the Kids Landcare Carnival that will be occurring at Kelly Reserve on the 6th September. This will be a true extravaganza of environmental fun for the kids, with activities ranging from the always popular Zoomobile, to the Picasso Cow, Recycled material musical instrument making - and performance, worm farms, wasteless lunch and much, much more.
You already already know about the Kalari Lachlan River Arts Festival happening on the 3rd and 4th September in Forbes, which will be an amazing event, which will feature among other things a truly spectacular Welcome to Country, poetry, busking, street party, lantern parade and so much more. For more information go to www.riverartsfestival.org.au
One event that has not been mentioned as yet though is happening on the 3rd of September in Forbes and is the Forbes Alternative Energy Expo. If you need any more information on Landcare head to www.parkeslandcare.org.au or visit us on Facebook and Twitter.
Volunteers needed to assist with the forum organisation.
Parkes and Districts Landcare are seeking community volunteers to assist with he running of the forum on the 5 to 7 September.
There will be approximately three hundred and fifty participants from all over the state in Parkes for the three days and we need volunteers to assist with their stay for the event.
Volunteers are required to act as information persons to assist the participants to move from venue to venue ie Parkes Services club to the Services Club and also to direct them to the various workshop venues located in the clubs.. Volunteers will be given a complete briefing on the forum activities and the hours you wish to volunteer are to suit you.
Any listener willing to volunteer for Landcare between the 5 and 7 September can contact the office on 6862 4914.
Bruie Plain Landcare meeting
Bruie Palins had their committee meeting and AGM last Thursday at Trundle Services and I ventured up to Trundle to attend and may I say I had a very enjoyable night. The Group meet every two months at the Services Club and commence the evening with a meal and to meet socially and have a laugh or two while they catch up with whats happening on the land.
The meeting is conducted after the meal and decisions are made on the future activities of the Group.
At the AGM the following were elected to positions President Jim Blake, Vice President Gary Crowley, Secretary Andrew Rawsthorne, Treasurer Rick Gibson, Public Officer Jim Blake.
Congratulations to those members for accepting the positions.
This is being conducted on Thursday 1 September at the property ‘Argyle Downs’ Woodford Road Bruie Plains.
The day will commence at 10.00 am with your arrival and morning tea and will be followed by an overview of CWCMA soil mapping project, a soil pit demonstration, an opportunity to test your own soils. at 1.00 there will be a BBQ lunch.
After lunch there will be demos on cropping and grazing sodic soils successfully, alternative fertilizer trial results, a rundown on CWCMA incentives and the Carbon Farming initiative.
The day will conclude at 3.30 pm
This is a free field day and open to farmers in the Central west and Lachlan areas and is sponsored by Bruie Plains Landcare, CANFA, DPI and the Central West CMA. Any listener wishing to attend this field day should contact Daniell Littlewood Central West CMA 6840 7805 or email danielle.littlewod@cma.nsw.gov.au by Monday 29 August,
drumMUSTER at Trundle.
This will be conducted on Tuesday 30 August commencing at 9.00 am. At the last muster they received three thousand drums and it is hoped that this muster will achieve the same results.
It is important that landholders register a book in time to save delay and allow the volunteer collectors to organize the morning. If there are no booking then it may not be on so don’t waste your time or the volunteers. Ring 6869 9248 to make the booking time so the event is hassle free.
Remember all drums put in for disposal must be washed and cleaned and metal drums need to be pierced.
The Number again to book in 6869 9248.
