Schools Eco Day on July 30th
Looking at Landcare 21st July 2010
Hello Landcarers.
Well the excitement is building for the Eco Day for Schools we have planned for Friday the 30th July.
This event will be held at the fantastic Central West Livestock Exchange near Forbes and promises to be a day of fun for all involved. So far we have 11 schools with teams booked in, which is a great effort on their behalf and I think reflects the interest amongst our local schools in environmental matters.Until next week Happy Landcaring.
It also bodes well for the future for us in environmental careers and us in Landcare, knowing that there is a new generation ready to take up the charge!
We hope too that the day will help spread the environmental message amongst the rest of the community and allow us to get many more projects happening with schools.
And a note to all of you Landcarers out there that we do need helpers for the day – if you can spare some time to do things like help to cook and serve food at the bbq lunch or assist at activity stations then make sure that you give Gerald a call on 0428 743846.
A big thanks to the other sponsors of the day being the Lachlan CMA and Forbes Shire Council.
Don’t forget that the Community Action Grants are now open for business. Head to www.nrm.gov.au and have a look to see if your project may be eligible. Of course many of you would have already submitted project EOI's to Gerald with a completed budget and a list of outcomes so putting together a project will be easy.
And please make sure - for future reference - that whenever you do have a project idea that you do complete one of these forms – they are on the website and also available from Gerald. Without having this process in place we don’t know what funds our members are after, which leads to a very ad hoc process of chasing down assistance, which is a real time killer for a volunteer organisation such as ours. If we can be strategic and forearmed then it will make our organisation so much more efficient!
Tree Day is looming so get those gloves and gumboots ready for some plantings on the first of August.
We have been very fortunate to gain funds from Parkes and Forbes Shire Councils for the day, which is fantastic, and will allow us to have events and tree plantings in both towns.
For details contact either Gerald of our very own “Mr Tree Day” – Bill Archer on the office number 0268 624914
Congratulations too this week go to that great group in Forbes, Forbes Urban Landcare, who I am told not only appeared on the cover of a major magazine recently, but will also be celebrating the opening of their flash new Landcare Shed next Tuesday. It is great to see the achievements of this group continue and we look forward to much more in the future.
Until next week, happy Landcaring!
