National Tree day coming up.
This will be on 30 July for schools and 1 August for the community.
We are endeavouring to supply 22 schools in the Forbes and Parkes Shires with trees such as varieties of Bottle Brush, Wattle and Melaluca for planting in their locality and we also organising with the partnership of Lachlan CMA, Parkes and Forbes Shire Council an Eco day for 70 students representing all primary schools in the shires to a fun and learning day at the Central West Livestock Exchange at Forbes.
The community tree planting on Sunday 1st August will be at Henderson Reserve on the Forbes Road. All community members are invited to attend the morning and share in the BBQ after the tree planting. There is another project that we have on the drawing board with Parkes Shire Council and it will be on Saturday 7 August at PAC Park on the southern side of the railway station. It will be a opportunity for the community to join in with helping landcare do some much needed gardening in PAC Park and help maintain and rejuvenate the waterwise garden. I ask listeners to note the date 7 August and have the family come to PAC park and enjoy the day and partake in the free BBQ afterwards. Don Duell from GreenParkes Nursery will be there to discuss water wise plants suitable for this area.
Drum Muster in Parkes 6th August.
Landholders in the Parkes area should take advantage of the drum muster on the morning of 6th August at Parkes Tip.
Drums should be washed and cleaned prior to delivery to the drum cage at Parkes Tip. For every drum delivered to during the muster landcare receives a donation from the Drum muster organisation. The drums are smashed into small pieces and the plastic recycled. Forbes Urban Landcare has done very well with the organisation of their muster and with the money raised they have erected a shed for their use on Council property. The opening of the Landcare shed will be held on 27th July. While on the Forbes Urban Group Len Reade Forbes stalwart has had a spell in hospital and is now back home. Len we wish you a speedy recovery back to good health.
