The NSW Landcare and Catchment Management Forum will attract delegates from all over New South Wales involved with all levels of Landcare from farmers and community representatives to industry and business professionals aiming to solve the problems of today with new ideas and approaches. The Forum itself will be conducted over two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) and will look at “thinking differently – new solutions for the old issues” and will host several high profile speakers, including Major Michael Jeffery who is involved with Outcomes Australia amongst other things. Also included will be representatives of Landcare from local to state level, State and federal Ministers, Central West and Lachlan Catchment Management Authority’s and Landcare Australia Limited.

The event kicks off on a Sunday evening with the inaugural Kalhari River festival on the lake foreshore at Forbes. Merrill Findlay the creative director of the project said “We are planning an amazing experience for Landcare Forum participants – where the history, landscapes and story of this unique place will be unveiled over a day, which will be a great start to the conference – held in the beautiful surrounds of the Forbes Lagoon”.

The Monday morning will see what has become known as the NSW Landcare Muster whereby the Landcare community gets together to discuss issues and determine the actions of Landcare NSW inc for the next twelve months. Following that, the RLF’s will meet and the agenda and organisation of that meeting is the task set aside for Danielle, Anne and Leanne. Gerald will be more intimately involved with the running of the Forum proper.

On the Tuesday night the NSW Landcare Dinner and Awards will be held. This will be the moment when hopefully our achievers in the Central West will be recognized at the State level. Regardless of the outcome, we know that the people out there doing their bit are all champions regardless of the size of the project.

It will also tell of the early settlers, relate to the Wiradjuri with dance and song, and look at the cultural and natural biodiversity of the region.

Merrill Findlay of Forbes Urban Landcare, and a member of the PDLC committee is doing a marvellous job of bringing it all together, being the director of the Kate Kelly Project and librettist for the KK Song Cycle composed by Ross Carey.

Merrill also has an amazing array of contacts in the arts and music circle. On Monday, 20th December, Merrill organised a meeting and BBQ in Forbes. At that get together were Martin Lee, Lachlan Campus, Mitchell Conservatorium of Music (and the violinist for the Kate Kelly Song Cycle); Stefo Nantsou, director of the inaugural Kalari-Lachlan River Arts Festival, resident director at Sydney Theatre Company, and artistic director Zeal Theatre, Councillor Phyllis Miller, Mayor of Forbes and Natural Resources Advisory Council Independent Convenor and many other community and organisation representatives. Look out for Chinese Lanterns, school kids with puppets and much more on the first Sunday in September 2011.
