Big day out and Family Friendly Fun Day BBQ

Looking at Landcare-Schools Eco Day Huge Success

As you read this 70 kids from 14 schools all around Parkes and Forbes and surrounding villages will be at the Central West Livestock Exchange, learning about the natural environment and we hope getting enthused about what they can do to make our area a better place, hopefully going home to spread the word about what they have learnt during the day. Read Full Story

Eco Day for schools National Tree Day and more

Schools Eco Day-
What a brilliant day. Weather leading up to the event was not good and the day itself was overcast and cold. In all 68 pupils arrived in two buses and what a great time they had. The students were broken up into six groups and then attended sessions on 
    Learning about native animals with Western Plains. stick insects, lizards, snakes and frogs. 
    Checking water bugs with Lachlan CMA, 
     Making a worm farm with Netwaste each school took a worm farm back with them.
     Using a GPS with the Rural Fire Service, 
    Understanding Wiradjuri links to the land and their culture, 
    Noxious weeds recognising them and their eradication
We did not have an opportunity to plant trees as the area was a swimming pool. Read Full Story

Grant applications
We have had quite a number of grant applications go in and there has been success with the Drain is for Rain project at Peak Hill which will involve students from both of the schools at Peak Hill and the grant fro the construction of 60 bird nesting boxes. We did put in for a grant for raised garden beds and shade houses for the villages of Trundle, Tullamore, Peak Hill and Bogan Gate but unfortunately we missed out but we will try again when the applications open. We are in the process of completion the expenditure on a FRRR grant for a printer, Banner Bugs, Tables and fuel subsidy to attend landcare matters. .  Read Full Story
